Emergency pet care in East Yorkshire is an important issue for tens of thousands of people who bring their dogs, cats and rabbits on holiday with them every year. When you’re miles from home and your usual vet, it’s essential to know what to do if your pet needs to see one urgently while you’re visiting our area.

In this blog, we’ll outline the services available at Aldgate Vets for people who are visiting the area for anything from a short break to an extended holiday. While most vets offer emergency care during normal working hours, Aldgate Vets is one of a handful of vets in the region offering a fully staffed, comprehensive out-of-hours service, meaning this article is essential reading for holidaymakers in Bridlington, Scarborough, Hornsea and most of the Yorkshire Wolds

Our dedicated out-of-hours team

The opening of our small animal hospital in Bridlington late in 2022 was a huge investment in veterinary services for East and North Yorkshire. A crucial part of this was the development of facilities that would allow a dedicated out-of-hours team to stay on the premises overnight to enable the fastest response to emergency care calls.

We also established a dedicated out-of-hours emergency care team – including Ricardo and Sian (above) – to ensure that at all times outside of normal practice hours, there is at least one vet and one registered veterinary nurse on duty and in the practice.

The facilities at our new Bridlington practice mean we also have accommodation in which to hospitalise inpatients in a warm and comfortable environment, with staff members on hand at all times. This includes separate wards for dogs and cats.

Outstanding facilities on-site

Our Bridlington small animal hospital features some of the best veterinary facilities in the region so we can care for your pet as effectively and efficiently as possible, without the delays caused by outsourcing to other practices.

In the case of emergency care, this includes a CT scanner, in-house blood machines and advanced diagnostic imaging technology, including ultrasound, x-rays, endoscopy and microscopy.

These all enable us to diagnose a wide range of conditions much faster than if we have to wait for them to be returned from another provider, meaning faster treatment and a better outlook for your cherished pet.

Emergency vet care for tourists

If your pet has been involved in an accident, sustained an injury or become ill suddenly, Aldgate Vets will see them, even if they are not already registered with our practice.

During normal practice hours, we may be able to see them at either our Bridlington or Driffield practice. If you need to see a vet out of hours, this would need to be at our Bridlington small animal hospital.

Home visits

In the majority of cases, the best option for the quickest medical attention for your pet requiring emergency services can be achieved by taking your pet to the Bridlington small animal hospital, after speaking to the on-duty vet.

Home visits may be offered on occasions during normal practice hours, when appropriate and at the discretion of the on-duty vet. Unfortunately we are unable to offer home visits outside of these hours. Please note that additional costs to consultation fees will be incurred by home visits.
