With summer in mind, it’s a great idea to mix things up on your dog walks by finding new locations to enjoy. The East Riding boasts some of the most stunning coastlines and countryside around, so why not make the most of the warmer weather by getting outdoors, exploring new dog walks, and getting your four-legged friend exercising?

Here are some lesser-known dog walking spots you may not have tried. Get outdoors and give ‘em a go!

Bridlington South Beach

Not far from our Bridlington site, the sandy stretch of south beach is a real playground for dogs. It’s a long stretch, so it’s a great option for dogs that need a long walk to really be tired out. Sun, sea, and sand – doggy (and human) paradise!

Leven Canal

The lovely village of Leven also boasts terrific walks, the best being along Leven Canal. The historic waterway was built in 1805 along the river Hull, and is registered as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with a rich array of flora and fauna along its banks. Scenic views and a peaceful atmosphere make Leven Canal a great spot for a quiet, reflective walk.

Watton Abbey

A lesser-known spot, Watton is a village that sits just a few short miles from Driffield. The Watton circular takes around two and a half hours along fields and country lanes. The walk takes you past the grounds surrounding the fifteenth-century priory. Take it slowly and enjoy the beauty of this tiny village – it’s a real gem.

Fraisthorpe Beach

If you just can’t get enough of sunny coastal walks at the minute, Fraisthorpe is another great spot to check out. Known for its friendliness towards dog walkers, you’ll be sure to find fellow dog lovers there enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. Be sure to check the tide times before heading out!

Huggate and Dry Valleys

Those up for a slightly more challenging route should try out Huggate and Dry Valleys. This 8.7km loop trail takes just over 2 hours to complete – and its well-worth the effort. Its one of the highlights of the Yorkshire Wolds, offering stunning views over the deep valleys and sweeping fields. Its well-marked and easy to follow, so you don’t need to worry about losing your way – unless you want to, of course.
